End of the Oregon Trail in Oregon City
Oregon City is the place the Oregon Trail was headed for, and Wikipedia says that is why it is nicknamed End of the Oregon Trail.
The interpretive center
Historic Oregon City, run by the nonprofit Clackamas Heritage Partners, presents the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive and Visitor Information Center at 1726 Washington Street. Its site lists hours of Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed on a few holidays. The visit includes staff interpreters, artifacts, wagons, a research room, a movie theater and hands-on activities such as candle dipping and doll making. The grounds include a Miniature Overland Trail, a Pioneer Garden and Abernathy Green, an Oregon City park used for community events. The same group runs a Travel Oregon Welcome Center in the building and a genealogy program. Check the site for current hours and admission.
The trail
The National Park Service says more than 2,000 miles of trail ruts and traces can still be seen along the Oregon National Historic Trail.
